Furey Family Eye Care has been an establishment of Roswell, Georgia for over 12 years and has been located on Highway 92 (East Crossville Road) since 1996.  Dr. Edward J. Furey, originally from Hermitage, Pennsylvania, north of Pittsburgh, attended Penn State University where he received his Bachelor of Science in Microbiology.  He also received a BS in Optics before obtaining his Doctorate at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  Furthermore, he studied at the prestigious glaucoma clinic, The Eye Institute in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for three years.  Dr. Furey has been practicing in Georgia since 1992 and has owned his practice since 1994.

The practice is located in a charming house on Highway 92 (East Crossville Road), between Crabapple and Mansell Roads.  The house was renovated into the first commercial facility on Highway 92.  Dr. Furey states, "We enjoy the office because of its homey atmosphere especially in the winter with the fireplace.  During the holidays, our patients love sitting by a nice warm fire in the winter and eating freshly baked cookies!"

When asked about why the practice is having so much success, Dr. Furey replied, "We invest a lot in state-of-the-art equipment and technology.  People are very comforted and surprised by the thoroughness of the eye examinations here.  Many patients have never had a digital retinal photograph or their blood pressure or blood sugar checked at an eye examination.  Did you know that a leading cause of blindness in the United States is diabetes?  Did you know that high blood pressure also ranks as one of the leading causes of blindness?  Glaucoma is considered the silent killer of sight because it has no symptoms.  It is only detected by multiple determining factors, such as eye pressures, any damage to the optic nerve, thickness of the cornea, family history and other factors.  Because of the equipment we have, we are able to detect glaucoma 5 to 7 years before any loss of vision.  We don't just evaluate the eyes.  We evaluate the whole patient.  We feel it is important to check blood pressure, blood sugar and photograph the retina with a highly specialized scanning laser because all the conditions of the body can effect eye sight."

Furey Family Eye Care also treats eye infections, diagnoses and manages glaucoma and other diseases of the eyes such as diabetes, dry eye symptoms and allergic conjunctivitis.  They do pre- and post-operative care for cataracts and LASIK surgeries.  They also specialize in difficult contact lens fittings, such as bifocal contacts.  Dr. Furey states "We care for patients in the entire family, ranging from infants to the elderly."

Furey Family Eye Care is not only Dr. Furey, but also his entire staff.  He states, "I have a great staff of experienced individuals who have many years in the industry that makes all the difference in the world.  One of the people I am speaking of is Dr. Julie Galbreath-Wolf.  She came to our office 2 years ago from Orlando, Florida.  She relocated to the metro Atlanta area with her husband, John.  Dr. Wolf has extensive experience in the industry, beginning with her training at the Southern College of Optometry, where she graduated with honors in 1995.  She received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry in 1991 from the Florida State University, also with honors.  Dr. Wolf began her career at the Baptist Eye Institute in Jacksonville, Florida, where her emphasis included specialty contact lens fitting, urgent and routine eye care, and retirement facility eye care.  She furthered her career by joining Eye Physicians of Central Florida, in Longwood in March, 1999.  She gained extensive experience in all areas of ocular pathology including diagnosis and management of glaucoma, cataracts, diabetic eye disease and urgent eye conditions such as corneal ulcers, corneal foreign bodies and iritis.  We are fortunate to have her in our practice."

Dr. Furey continues, "The staff does not only consist of doctors.  There is a fantastic support staff that provides extensive knowledge of glasses, contact lenses and ocular health.  We have additional information about our practice and staff on our website at www.fureyfamilyeyecare.com."  It's easy to see why Furey Family Eye Care won the "Best Ophthalmologist/Optometrist in Roswell" by Around Roswell Magazine subscribers.
