2006 Primary Election
WHAT'S NEW!
Tuesday, July 18

One of our most important freedoms as Americans is our right to elect leaders who represent our values.  It is a freedom that is so precious that many lives were lost in obtaining it.  Yet, amazingly, millions of Americans choose not to exercise their right to vote.  Many cannot even name their U.S. Senators or their Congressman, not to mention their State Senator or State Representatives.

We live in a representative republic.  We elect leaders who we believe will best represent us.  When they fail, it is our job to vote them out.

America is the greatest country in the world.  That would not be possible if we were not allowed to pick our leaders.  The City of Roswell has been named one of the top three cities in the nation to raise your family, which makes local elections that much more important.  This election year, please take the time to decide what you look for in a leader, find out who fits those qualifications, and vote accordingly, both locally and nationally.

As a reminder, you do NOT have to register by political party to vote in the State's regular Primary or General Election — anyone who is registered to vote may vote in the Primary as a Republican or a Democrat.

The majority of candidates are running unopposed.  In the race for the 6th Congressional District, Republican incumbent Tom Price faces Democrat Steve Sinton and Republican John Konop.

Commission Chairwoman Karen Handel of Roswell is a candidate for Secretary of State.  Democrats John Eaves, Keisha Sean Waites and Republican Lee Morris are all vying for Karen’s vacant position of District 1 at large seat on the County Commission.  Other County Commission seats include Republican Bill Loughrey facing Democratic incumbent Robb Pits for the District 2 seat and Lynne Riley has no opposition to her District 3 seat.

The elections for state legislators are mostly uncontested.  Only Representatives Jan Jones who is facing Democrat Melanie Eyre and incumbent Republican Harry Geisinger is facing Democrat Jan Hackney.
